Brussels, October 24, 2023 – After a decade of extensive study and research, FLUORSID’s Research and Development team is ready to turn an ambitious project into reality. LIFE-SYNFLUOR, selected within the LIFE Programme of the European Commission, was presented at the LIFE23 Welcome Meeting – Circular Economy and Quality of Life, held in Brussels, and will see three different industrial supply chains working together for the first time – fluorine, fertilizer and tire.
A synergy involving the construction of a pilot plant to which cutting-edge technology will be applied, capable of transforming hexafluorosilicic acid, a byproduct of the fertilizer industry, into high-value raw materials.
FLUORSID will be engaged in the enhancement of synthetic calcium fluoride, destined for the fluoroderivatives market, while Pirelli will test precipitated silica first on a laboratory scale and then on an industrial level for potential use in tire production.
“It was an important opportunity to introduce LIFE-SYNFLUOR and an opportunity to engage with the other winners of the call, all united by a common goal: to promote the circular economy as the foundation of industrial strategies.” – said Luca Pala, Research and Development Director and project coordinator.
With LIFE-SYNFLUOR, FLUORSID reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability, building intersectoral synergies to promote the circular economy and the reuse of industrial by-products.
